Tsumori
Tsumori is a spatial sound work by icon, the Fukuoka-based art collective comprising DJs and sound artists PGGLVŸ, vvekapipo and ZOEMO. Created for The Beginning of Japanese Electroacoustic Presents Spatial Audio & Noise, it was presented on 25 July 2026 at the Experimental Hall, Multipurpose Building, Kyushu University, Ohashi Campus.
The work uses only stereo field recordings captured with two microphones, without effects processing. The left and right channels of each recording are independently assigned to five loudspeakers, either individually or in combinations. Space is composed through the selection of speakers and the timing of playback.
As recorded stereo relationships are redistributed across the room, small shifts in timing, overlaps and changes in stereo imaging reveal new perceptions of position, distance and movement. Rather than adding effects to the recordings, Tsumori allows a different acoustic space to emerge from the relationships already held within them.
