Internationally acclaimed Düsseldorf-based sound artist Miki Yui and the singular musician Manabe, known for his majestic soundscapes, make their first appearances in Fukuoka.

A partner of the late Klaus Dinger of NEU! and collaborator with electronic music pioneer Carl Stone in the duo Realistic Monk, Yui is exceptional in her delicate, microscopic approach to sound. The sounds she creates and their interactions seem to bring us into contact with something limitless and merciless, like evolution in the natural world. They emerge before us as a deeply primal experience.

Also joining is Manabe, a singular DJ who moves between Tokyo’s underground avant-garde music scene and Sapporo’s psychedelic scene, developing his own deep soundscapes. At rural 2024, his remarkable convergence of multilayered sounds with microscopic textures created an almost otherworldly sonic space that remains vivid in memory.

Alongside Miki Yui and Manabe, the lineup brings together artists whose deep sounds are distinguished by a seemingly bottomless sense of depth.

Miki Yui

Since her 1999 debut album small sounds, Miki Yui has woven a distinctive, delicate and organic musical world from field recordings, faint noise and electronic sound. Alongside her solo practice, she has collaborated with Rolf Julius and Asmus Tietchens, and works with Carl Stone in the duo Realistic Monk.

She was the partner of the late Klaus Dinger of NEU! and now manages his archive. Her releases have appeared on acclaimed labels including Café OTO’s Otoroku, Meakusma, Hallow Ground and TAL.

Her practice extends beyond music to installations, performances, drawings and radio works. She continues to present her work around the world to wide acclaim.

Manabe

Manabe is a DJ who builds immersive sonic spaces through the interference between elements drawn from drone, musique concrète, ambient and dub.

Through an overflow of information with rapidly shifting microscopic textures, he seeks to push listening beyond its capacity to process. He is a rare presence who gives audible form to dense sonic images that can make listeners feel as though they have wandered into a temple or a cave.
