vvekapipo — OPEN TO LAST

Fukuoka-based experimental musician vvekapipo presents his first OPEN TO LAST set.

vvekapipo reconstructs the elusive, collective phenomenon often referred to as Japanoise within a club context. Rather than relying on conventional mixing techniques, he improvisationally shapes sound by transforming rhythms and sonic textures themselves, exploring new possibilities for DJing.

For this edition of hertz, he will perform a hybrid set incorporating self-built instruments and synthesizers into his DJ practice, developing his own distinctive form of dance music.

While working at Kieth Flack, a key venue in Fukuoka, vvekapipo organises hertz, an experimental gathering centred on noise music.

Through collage-based approaches using field recordings and self-built instruments, he consciously reconstructs noise that lies outside awareness, transforming it into a distinctive industrial electronic music rooted in a new approach to Japanoise.

Alongside appearances at festivals such as rural and PRHYTHM, he has performed in Amsterdam, Bangkok and Shanghai, developing his distinctive soundscapes across diverse listening spaces in Japan and abroad.

His album Field Recording Works 2018–2023 was selected for Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore’s 350 Best Records of 2025.
